Latest Results of AF treatment
Our results the year up to June 2009
In 2009 we performed 443 AF ablations at St Barts and London Bridge.
| First procedure success | Success after repeat procedures | |
| Paroxysmal | 67% | 95% |
| Persistent | 54% | 80.5% |
- Major complications
- Blood leaking out of heart requiring drainage (tamponade) 1.8%
- Stroke 0.67%
- Bleed from leg requiring transfusion 0.2%
- Death 0%
We have had one patient die four days after the procedure this year from an unrelated heart attack as a result of blockage of an artery that had been treated with angioplasty eight years before.

Note: We have not included data from our experimental techniques (burn and freeze – for paroxysmal AF and Hansen guided ablation) because until we have robust randomised controlled data we do not think it is fair to raise expectations which may be proved unfounded.
What is AF?
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common, abnormal rhythm of the heart.
